If you’ve been following along and reading our post or articles. Wait…you are reading them, right? You haven’t just found this somewhere on the internet and are just now reading it. Well your homework assignment is to go back and binge read all the previous post. Pick a rainy day do it like your favorite show on netflix or on-demand. Lecture over; I digress.

The post that I’m referring to was Are You Carrying?  Click on it and it will take you right to the article. Well as I stated in the article I was chastised just a bit by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman as was everyone else in attendance at his seminar about the need to carry if you have the ability to. I was please with the article so I thought I’d do something really bold, at least bold for me, and send him a link to the article. Perhaps he might eventually get around to reading it.

I ll let you read what I wrote:

Hello Lt. Col,

I’m Jeffrey Washington. I’ve been in law enforcement for the past 30 years here in Flint, MI. I’ve attended your classes multiple times to the tune of about 15 times over the years. In addition to police work, I’ve begun teaching personal safety classes and firearms training with my wife and business partner to people in our community. I recently uploaded a post on our blog regarding concealed carry and I spoke of you. I know you are busy but if you find the time, feel free to take a read.

Respectfully,

I didn’t expect to get a response right away although I had written him before and gotten a reply. Two days later I get the nicest letter from an assistant of his, Kathy Kelsheimer:

Hi Jeffrey,

My name is Kathy, and I work for Col. Grossman.  Part of my job is to “filter” his mail, so I get to read so many wonderful e-mails that are sent to him.  Yours fit that category!  I will certainly forward your message to Col. Grossman, but I wanted to tell you that the article is GREAT!  I bet it impacts the readers and I just wanted to say “thank you” for the content.  We may never know the results of your writing, but I bet it will have a ripple effect that just may save lives.  So, good for you, my friend!

I also attended Col. Grossman’s presentation – oh, so many years ago – and decided that day to always carry.  It was life-changing and just made sense.  Your article follows up on that and gives encouragement and a reminder to avoid what could be a devastating regret.

Thanks for sending us the article, Jeffrey!

Best,

kathy

Wouldn’t you know it, true to her word, she forwarded my message and Col. Grossman writes the following:

Jeffrey,

Dave G here.  I echo what Kathy says below.  Wonderful job!  Truly an honor to be of service.
Do you have a copy of my Sheepdogs kids book?  If not, I’d like to get one in the mail to you.
God bless and all the best to you and yours!
Dave
I wrote back and told him that I would be honored to receive his Sheepdogs kids book and that we might make it available for our students that train with us. About a week later the book arrives and I read it right away. It is a great book and would be well received by youngsters that have a desire to help others. Perhaps it will give them purpose as many of his text have given me. Look for a more thorough review of this in the future.
Let me put this in perspective. In the field of Law Enforcement, getting a letter or response from Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, is like a kid that plays basketball and loves and admires Stephen Curry or Michael Jordan, writing them a letter and actually getting not only a personal response but an autographed copy of his book. To me it was a big deal.

Until Next Time…,

Be Alert, Be Aware and BE SAFE!!
